Back to business as usual

Last week saw the return of our marketing assistant, Angharad, who recently spent two months volunteering in Costa Rica and Nicaragua as a Venturer for the sustainable development charity, Raleigh International.

Prior to joining Zebra and over the course of 12 months, Angharad spent most of her free time organising various fundraising events, to secure the £3,000 needed to fund her place on the expedition. She successfully reached this target in February of this year and started to make arrangements for her volunteer work, which would take place throughout July and August.

With six months still to go before her expedition, Angharad got in touch with Zebra and was subsequently recruited as our marketing assistant in April of this year. Just a few short months later, Angharad took time out to participate in the pre-arranged volunteer work, where she and a team of others made a real difference to some remote communities in Central America.

The trip was split into three exciting phases; a 19 day trek across the Guanacaste area of Costa Rica, restoration work in La Cangreja National Park (also in Costa Rica) and the installation of a solar powered water system in La Laguna – a small Nicaraguan village.

Angharad explains: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time volunteering, despite having to overcome my fear of being faced with some huge, scary spiders! I made many new friends and had some incredible experiences that will stay with me for a lifetime.

“Spending time working and living as part of communities who come from deprived areas was very humbling. Every day I learnt something new and now that I’m back at Zebra I am excited at the prospect of continuing this personal growth.

“Adjusting back to life in the UK was a bit strange at first, but I’m quickly getting used to eating my favourite home-cooked food and drinking copious amounts of tea again.”

The team at Zebra is delighted to see Angharad back, safe and sound and ready for business. But the fun doesn't stop there….Last week Angharad was thrown straight back in at the deep end – enrolling onto a part-time course at Glyndwr University. Over the next 12 months Angharad will also be working towards attaining a professional certificate in Marketing through the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
