Ways & Means of Communication

Clara Hughes, Director of Zebra Marketing & Communications, was invited to speak at this year’s Community Housing Cymru Group’s PR & Communications Conference 2012. This two-day event took place on Wednesday 26 and Thursday 27 September at the Ramada Plaza Hotel, Wrexham. Both days were filled with workshops, talks and presentations, as well as social opportunities to network. The conference’s Chair, Phillipa Davies, aka Mrs Motivator, opened and closed the event and various seminars covered a wide variety of subjects, including Managing Corporate Stress, insights from the Welsh Government, Writing a Digital Strategy and Branding tips. Wednesday rounded off with a conference dinner and awards.

Clara’s session, which was part of the second day of the conference, was an hour-long interactive presentation which highlighted the need for good communication within organisations. It was titled ‘Banish the brainstorm, head for a tactical tea break – the importance of effective Internal Communication’. Using her experience of almost 20 years providing PR, marketing and communications for a range of sectors, Clara discussed the value of good communications within companies, whatever their size and sector.

The event was a great opportunity for Clara, who has experience of working within the social housing section, most recently with one of her current clients, Swansea’s Coastal Housing. Clara enjoyed the presentation and hopes the delegates benefited from her session and its insights – “As well as allowing me to share my experiences of communication techniques with others, it was also a good opportunity for the delegates to assess and share some of their own internal communications experiences and issues. It’s often a side of business that’s taken for granted, but I hope to highlight the importance of internal communications, to ensure companies get the best out of their various – and ever-evolving – teams”.
